Contactless, Tap-to-Pay, and NFC Wallets on One POS

A practical guide to taking contactless payments on NoPOS: tap-to-pay cards and NFC wallets at the counter and tableside, automatic tips and receipts on touch-free tenders, and reconciliation that keeps every tap in the same ledger as cash and chip.

Contactless should be the fastest tender at the counter, not a second workflow. When tap-to-pay cards and NFC wallets run through the same POS that handles cash and chip, the line moves faster and every tap lands in the same ledger — no separate terminal report to reconcile at close.

Accept every tap where you already take payment

  • Take contactless cards plus Apple Pay and Google Pay on the same reader at the counter, tableside, and curbside, so staff never ask "cash or card machine?" twice.
  • Keep the amount on screen before the tap so the guest confirms the total — including tip-adjusted totals on pay-at-table — before touching their phone or card.
  • Fall back cleanly when a tap fails: prompt for insert or swipe on the same sale instead of voiding and rebuilding the check.

Keep tips, splits, and receipts touch-free too

  • Collect tips on NFC wallet tenders the same way as chip: percentage presets and custom amounts on the customer-facing screen before the tap completes.
  • Split checks across mixed tenders — one seat taps a phone, another inserts a card — with each authorization linked to its seat instead of one lumped total.
  • Send digital receipts from the same receipt pipeline as every other sale, so a tap-to-pay guest gets the same business name, amount, and support contact as a cash guest.

Reconcile taps with everything else at close

  1. Match every contactless authorization against its settlement batch in the end-of-day close, so NFC wallet sales settle into the same deposit as chip and swipe.
  2. Flag partial taps and abandoned authorizations the same way as voided chip sales, so a guest who tapped twice by accident gets one clean refund, not a dispute.
  3. Review contactless tender mix alongside cash and card in one report, so staffing and reader placement follow where the line actually moves fastest.

Use Swagger UI or OpenAPI for the current tender, tip-adjustment, and settlement-batch shapes.
