Guest Feedback & Reviews: Turn Every Receipt Into a Five-Star Review

A practical guide to capturing guest feedback on NoPOS: post-visit review prompts on digital receipts, private recovery before public reviews, and tying ratings back to the check, server, and shift that earned them.

The NoPOS developer relations team writes practical guides for building on the NoPOS REST API — from first smoke test to production POS.

Reviews are won at the table, not on a review site. When feedback capture runs through the same POS that rang up the check, every rating ties back to the exact order, server, and shift — so you fix what actually went wrong instead of guessing from a two-star comment three days later.

Ask for feedback where the receipt already lives

  • Put a one-tap rating prompt on every digital receipt so the guest answers while the meal is still fresh, not after a review-site email a week later.
  • Route happy guests to public review profiles and unhappy guests to a private note to the manager — recovery happens before the rating, not after it.
  • Time the prompt to the visit: fire it with the receipt for dine-in, and delay it to the delivery window for online orders so the food, not the wait, gets judged.

Tie every rating to the check that earned it

  • Attach the rating to the order record so a low score opens the right check: items, comps, voids, and who served it, all in one place.
  • Slice ratings by server, shift, and daypart to spot coaching moments — one station dragging down Friday nights is a staffing fix, not a menu problem.
  • Cross-reference bad ratings with kitchen timing and comp records so you know whether the complaint was slow food, a wrong modifier, or a bill dispute.

Close the loop and show the trend

  1. Follow up on every negative response within a day with a named reply and, where it fits, store credit on the guest's record — the recovery is tracked, not improvised.
  2. Review rating trends alongside sales and labor in the same weekly report, so a dip after a menu or staffing change shows up with its cause attached.
  3. Celebrate the wins publicly: share top-rated shifts and standout server mentions with the team so good service gets reinforced, not just bad service corrected.

Use Swagger UI or OpenAPI for the current receipt, customer-record, and store-credit request shapes.
