Car Wash & Auto Detail POS: Keep the Tunnel Moving, Sell the Membership, Track Every Bay

Run a car wash or detail shop where pay stations and attendants sell in seconds, unlimited clubs renew on their own, and every tunnel pass and detail bay reconciles at close.

Saturday Morning Rush: that is the whole reality of a car wash. Unlimited wash clubs bill themselves while the tunnel keeps moving, a line of SUVs stacks up behind the pay station while an attendant upsells ceramic upgrades in the rain, and a three-row detail with pet hair sits in bay two past its promised time — while the chemical costs creep up unnoticed and the day's cash, cards, and fleet accounts land in three different piles. A generic register sees only one-off tickets, so memberships become spreadsheets, queues become apologies, and bay time becomes invisible labor. Build the flow around throughput and recurrence — fast lane sales, self-renewing clubs, and per-bay job tracking — and the site washes more cars with the same crew.

Sell the wash in seconds, even at peak stack

Throughput is revenue. Run express pay stations with three-tap packages — basic, deluxe, works — plus license-plate lookup so members roll through without stopping. Handle the lane reality: attendant tablets that sell upgrades curbside, fleet and dealer accounts billed monthly instead of per visit, rain-check codes issued in one tap when the tunnel goes down, and cash accepted at the kiosk without slowing the card lane. When the pay step takes seconds instead of minutes, the stack clears before drivers give up and turn out.

Let unlimited clubs renew themselves

Memberships are the margin. Sell monthly unlimited plans by plate with automatic rebilling, prorated mid-cycle upgrades, and failed-payment retries that nudge the member before suspending the pass. Handle the club reality: family plans with two plates on one bill, seasonal holds for snowbirds instead of cancellations, redemption limits per day that stop abuse politely at the gate, and win-back offers for lapsed members timed to the first dusty week of spring. When clubs bill, retry, and retain on their own, recurring revenue compounds while the tunnel just keeps spinning.

Track every detail bay like a job shop

Details are appointments wearing coveralls. Book bays by service length — express interior, full detail, ceramic coating multi-day holds — with buffers for vacuum, cure, and QC walkaround so bay two never double-books the pet-hair SUV. Handle the shop reality: add-on upsells (shampoo, odor bomb, headlight restoration) attached to the same ticket, technician assignment per job for labor costing, photo check-in and check-out that ends damage disputes, and SMS updates when the car is ready instead of a crowded waiting room. When each bay has a schedule and each job has an owner, promise times hold and comebacks drop.

Control chemical and labor cost per car

Volume hides waste. Track chemical usage against cars washed per day, flag over-dispensing before the drum empties early, and price packages from true per-car cost instead of last year's guess. Handle the site reality: labor hours per tunnel shift against cars per labor hour, commission on attendant upsells paid from the record, tip pools for detail crews split by job share, and damaged-equipment voids that need a manager code. When cost per car is visible daily, the manager fixes the mix ratio on Tuesday instead of discovering it in next month's P&L.

Close the day across lanes, bays, and clubs

Wash close spans three revenue streams. Count cash against kiosk and attendant sales by tender type, reconcile card batches including offline-queued tunnel sales, and split the day by lane versus detail bays so each stream stands on its own. Then add the wash layer: cars washed by package against chemical usage for true margin, club MRR movement (new, upgraded, churned, past-due recovered) for the recurring book, and bay utilization that shows whether the bottleneck is the tunnel or the detail schedule. Export the figures to match processor deposits, with fleet and dealer receivables aged separately. When lanes, bays, and clubs all reconcile from the same system, close takes minutes and tomorrow's staffing starts from facts.
